Sales Information
A new wine from the Chateau Bauduc vineyard in Bordeaux. This is a 100% Merlot fruit driven approachable red. A great match for the white. This wine can be drunk young

Light, fragrant red Bordeaux that shows lovely delicacy and freshness, with its medium-bodied palate exuding juicy flavours of plum, beetroot and sage. Light tannins and a dry, appetising finish. Meant for early drinking in casual, fun settings.

Drink on its own, with Greek lamb and orzo or with a mixed grill.

The Vineyard
Gavin Quinney, Bauduc proprietor: "The 2012 Bordeaux Rouge comes from two parcels of Merlot. Even before we picked it, the quality was very good but we didn't think it had the structure to support oak ageing and for some time we've wanted to have an easy-to-drink, red Bordeaux, to fit alongside our Bordeaux blanc and Bordeaux rosé. It's an easy drinking, bistro, lunch or supper sort of wine rather than a grand dinner."

The 2012 Bordeaux crop was challenging, late and small. Spring and early summer were wet and chilly, meaning poor flowering  (coulure) and uneven grape development (millerandage), followed by a hot, dry summer. Autumn was wet, and so menacing with the threat of disease, although Merlot fared better than the later-ripening Cabernet, which was still on the vine when the persistent rains set in. Overall the wines are light, fresh and fruity.
