Pago de Cirsus Vendimia Seleccionada
Tempranillo Merlot Syrah
Dark ripe cherry colour with violet tones. A bouquet with balsamic notes combines with red berries on the nose. The palate is smooth, silky and balanced, with a long aftertaste.
The wine was aged for 12 months in French (90%) and American oak (10%), followed by another 10 months in bottle before release to market. The blend consists of 35% Tempranillo, 35% Merlot and 30% Syrah.
The excellent quality and sanitary conditions of the fruit could make the 2009 harvest one of the greatest in the denomination’s history. The harvest started mid August, 15 days earlier than the previous campaign. The summer was very hot and dry causing the grapes to develop somewhat unevenly. However, the rain which fell in mid September and the fall in temperatures marked an important turning point
which allowed the maturation to even out in the late varieties.
The 135 hectares of southerly vineyards are planted with Tempranillo, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and small grain Muscat. The average yield per hectare is intentionally reduced to approximately 4,000-4,500 kilos, which is much lower than what is regulated by the region’s control board. The result is excellent quality grapes with good colour that produce elegant wines with good body and a powerful structure.
