Villa Tonino Nero d'Avola 2007
Nero d'Avola
Deep cherry red in colour with aromas of plums, cherries and blueberries. Great intensity of concentrated cherry and damson fruits with a spicy overlay and excellent firm tannins giving a wine of elegant structure. Drink now or keep happily for a few years.
Producer
The Curatolo family has been producing excellent Marsala and quality wine for over a century. In the 1999 vintage the Curatolos were advised to contact Alberto Antonini in order to have at hand the modern winemaking skills required to allow the varieties to express their maximum potential.
Vineyard
The vineyards are located in two different areas, one near Marsala and the other in Central Sicily, at around 420 metres above sea level on clay soils. The grapes from the former region, normally an area regarded as being cool for Nero d’Avola, have given vibrancy and an aromatic dimension to the wine, while the latter, a hotter, drier zone, provides the colour, weight and structure. The climate is Mediterranean with mild winters and hot summers. Harvest took place in September.
PRODUCTION
The grapes were destemmed and gently pressed, followed by fermentation in stainless steel vats at controlled temperature. The wine was aged in used French and American oak for 3 months.
