Tasting Notes
Ruby, medium-bodied red wine from the Haut Médoc. On the delicate side of Bordeaux with subtle notes of cassis, liquorice and dark plum. Firm acidity and well balanced. Will match nicely to grilled veal chops with thyme, oregano and rosemary. Overall a restrained, feminine wine (for Bordeaux) that will appeal to lovers of a traditional style.
Merlot 80%,
Cabernet Sauvignon 17%,
Cabernet Franc 1%,
Petit Verdot 2%.
The Vineyard
The Chateau has traditionally been run by the women in the family and is currently run by Berangere Tesseron, the wife of Basile Tessaron, who runs Lafon-Rochet (a Fourth Growth situated in the neighbouring Saint-Estephe). The domaine has belonged to the same family for three centuries and the 20 hectares of vineyards were originally planted in 1861.
Breaking the traditional left-bank blend, the Chateau Larrivaux is 60% Merlot, which means it benefitted from the early ripening of the 2012 vintage. A left-bank offering that has not suffered too much from the obstacles of the 2012 vintage affecting Cabernet Sauvignon.
